Humiliation Play and Self Esteem?
Just some thoughts
Picture this: we’re in the dungeon. Your arms are suspended from the ceiling, dressed in a negligee thong set, and being called every name but the one your mother gave, saliva tunneling through your chest hair thanks to the gag in your mouth, which happens to double as a cup holder. O and also, I have Beyoncé on the speakers commanding the undulation of your hips, BUT no drop of my water in that gag cup holder is to spill out.
A little ridiculous. A lot of fun.
Younger me would have not wanted to put an innocent person in such a vulnerable and sloppy position. Not because it wasn’t amusing, but what if it hurt their feelings in a lasting way (even if they asked and consented to this)?
In my experience, submissives that looooove humiliation also possess a high threshold for taking social injury on the chin. The willingness to try something, fail, make a fool of yourself, and remain ultimately unbothered is not just an in-scene experience. I do wonder though, if all the in-scene experience bolsters their resilience for non-BDSM embarrassing moments. If that is the case for you, I’d love to hear more. Does having a controlled, safe environment for emotional pain prime you for the less welcome jabs out in the world?
Anytime we’re trying a new hobby, joining a social group, just beginning a career, or putting our creations out into the world, we’re exposing ourselves to judgment and criticism.
There’s something freeing about being imperfect but not hiding in the shame of our “oopsies.”
For the rest of the summer, I’d like to challenge you and myself to risk enduring social injury if it means building connections, skill proficiency, or the warm and fuzzy content feeling that comes from making your Domme happy is on the other side. ✨
